Schloss Burgk Freital, Städtische Sammlungen Freital
Freital, Germany, Germany
Schloss Burgk in Freital, Germany, is a Neo-Renaissance castle that originated from a Renaissance manor first mentioned in 1168, owned by the von Zeutsch family from 1507 to 1742 before passing to industrialists like Senator Seiler and the Dathe von Burgk barons, who turned it into the administrative center for one of Germany's most successful private coal mines in the 19th century.
Restored in the 19th century with its characteristic scroll gables and gray stone facade, it has housed the Städtische Sammlungen Freital municipal collections since 1946, showcasing art by Otto Dix, mining history over 500 years, the world's first electric mine locomotive "Dorothea," and a romantic park with sculptures and an adventure playground.
