Schloss Darfeld
Rosendahl, Germany, Germany
Schloss Darfeld in Rosendahl, Germany, is a moated water castle originating from a 13th-century manor house that was rebuilt in the early 17th century as a planned eight-wing Baroque palace but scaled back to a two-wing structure due to financial issues under Ritter Jobst von Vörden.
Sold in 1680 to the Droste zu Vischering family—who still own it today—it suffered a major fire in 1899, was rebuilt in Neo-Renaissance style by architect Hermann Schaedtler, and served military and convent uses postwar before returning to private residence.
Internationally known as the childhood home of Mary of the Divine Heart, who influenced Pope Leo XIII's consecration to the Sacred Heart, the site lies amid Münsterland trails and Baumberge routes.
