Verified Schloss Frankleben

Braunsbedra, Germany

Schloss Frankleben, also known as Rittergut Frankleben or Unterhof Frankleben, is a Renaissance manor located in the village of Frankleben, part of Braunsbedra in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

The site originally hosted a medieval water castle owned by the noble von Bose family as early as 1326. Between 1597 and 1603, the current four-winged Renaissance building was constructed by the von Bose family, incorporating elements of the earlier castle structure.

The estate remained in the possession of the von Bose family for over six centuries, a rare continuity until the 1945 expropriation under Soviet land reform. During the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, the manor underwent significant interior and exterior renovations that altered its original appearance.

After falling into disrepair post-1945, extensive restoration took place between 2007 and 2013, reviving the estate as a cultural venue that hosts concerts, readings, and events, while also accommodating guest rooms and public functions such as a branch of the local registry office.

Schloss Frankleben exemplifies regional Renaissance architecture and bears layers of history reflecting its noble heritage and modern revival.
