Schloss Großkötz
Kötz, Germany
Schloss Großkötz is a baroque castle located in Großkötz, part of the municipality Kötz in Bavaria, Germany.
The site has a long history dating back to the 11th century, with the earliest known mention of a Hartmann de Kez. In 1312, ownership of the estate changed between monasteries, and from 1408 the castle and lands were held as a fief by the Ulm patrician family Ehinger, who retained it until their line ended in 1743.
The present-day castle was built in 1760 by Joseph Dossenberger, serving as a summer palace for the abbots of the Wettenhausen monastery. The building features a two-winged structure with a hipped roof and pilaster decoration. Today, the castle is used as a parish house and is a protected historic monument reflecting its rich heritage in the region.
