Schloss Hachenburg
Hachenburg, Germany, Germany
Schloss Hachenburg is a Baroque palace dominating the skyline of Hachenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, originally founded as a castle around 1180 by Count Heinrich II of Sayn, completed in 1212 under his son Heinrich III, who made it the family seat alongside the nearby Marienstatt Abbey.
A devastating town fire in 1654 razed it to the ground, prompting Counts Salentin von Manderscheid and Georg Friedrich von Sayn-Hachenburg to rebuild it from 1715 to 1746 as a grand horseshoe-shaped Baroque residence designed by architect Julius Ludwig Rothweil, featuring a chapel, expansive courtyard, and panoramic garden views.
After passing to Nassau-Weilburg in 1799 and various owners, it now serves as the Deutsche Bundesbank's training academy and professional college.
