Schloss Harzgerode
Harzgerode, Germany, Germany
Schloss Harzgerode is a Renaissance castle in the town of Harzgerode, Germany, first documented in 1384 as a medieval fortress of the Anhalt princes and later held by the Counts of Stolberg until 1535.
Rebuilt from 1549 to 1552 under Prince Georg III with a west wing added in 1583, it served as the residence for the Anhalt-Bernburg-Harzgerode line from 1635 to 1709, featuring ornate parquet floors, a historic black kitchen, barrel vaults, and a pleasure garden.
Today, the preserved three-story structure with towers and battlements houses a museum on local ironworks and sculptures, a library, event hall, restaurant, and tourist office amid the Harz Mountains.
