Schloss Hausen
Oberaula, Germany, Germany
Schloss Hausen is a Renaissance castle and stately home in the Hausen district of Oberaula, a climatic health resort in Germany's Hesse region within the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis.
First mentioned in 1160 with a 13th-century water castle built by Fulda Abbey, it was acquired as a fief by the von Dörnberg family in 1461, rebuilt around 1600, destroyed by Bavarian troops in 1642 during the Thirty Years' War, and reconstructed in 1687 by Johann Kaspar von Dörnberg on three-meter-thick foundations visible in its walls.
Featuring a northern Renaissance wing with large windows added post-war, drawbridges, and a portal dated 1687, it stands as a private historic landmark amid forests and fields near hiking trails, lakes, and Brothers Grimm fairy-tale landscapes.
