Schloss Hoheneck in Stollberg, Germany, evolved from a medieval fortress first documented in 1244 as the "Staleburg," serving as the center of the emerging Herrschaft Stollberg on the Erzgebirge edge under early lords like Hugo von Staleburgk.

Passing through owners including the Schönburger, Bohemian King Charles IV, and from 1459 as a Saxon fief, it became a Wettin electoral estate by 1564, with its Vorwerk evolving into the Hoheneck district after a 1702 sale that renamed it, and later functioning as an Amtsgefängnis in the 17th century with a distinctive clock tower.

From 1862 to 2001, it operated as a notorious women's prison—most infamously under GDR political repression—before city acquisition in 2014 led to state-funded restoration, transforming it into a modern site balancing its layered history.
