Schloss Jößnitz
Plauen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Jößnitz is a historic castle-like manor in the village of Jößnitz near Plauen in Germany's Vogtland region, first documented in 1282 as a medieval spur castle with a core fortress protected by walls and a neck ditch.
Likely built around 1320 amid the Lobensteiner domain, it suffered damage in the Thirty Years' War before rebuilding by 1643, featuring a powerful Renaissance main building with turrets, bay windows, and a drawbridge that was demolished in 1860, leaving the preserved side wing as a multi-story quarry stone structure with half-timbered upper floors and shooting slits.
Passing to bourgeois owners like the Völkel family in 1904 who added a park with a bathhouse and tennis court, it operated as a hotel until recent comprehensive restoration from 1994-1998, now serving as the Schlosshotel Jößnitz with its Baroque church nearby.
