Schloss Karow
Germany, Germany
Schloss Karow near Plau am See in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, is a unique double castle blending classicist and neo-baroque styles, with its main section built around 1800 by the noble von Hahn family to replace an earlier 17th-century structure.
In 1899, Berlin merchant Johannes Schlutius acquired the estate and commissioned architect Ernst Eberhard von Ihne—court architect to Kaiser Wilhelm II—to add a lavish neo-baroque extension from 1903-1906, creating the only such architectural fusion in the state amid a romantic landscape park with a pond.
The versatile manor has served as a school, refugee camp, hospital, cultural center, cinema, and vocational school, now functioning primarily as a wedding venue and hotel.
