Schloss Ketschendorf
Coburg, Germany, Germany
Schloss Ketschendorf in Coburg, Germany, is a prime example of neo-Gothic castle architecture built in 1869 by architect Georg Konrad Rothbart for opera singer Rosine Stoltz, the "Baroness of Ketschendorf," replacing a dilapidated Empire-style manor from 1803 commissioned by Duchess Auguste of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld.
The nearly square sandstone-and-brick structure features octagonal crenellated corner towers and central porches with tracery gables on all four sides, including a loggia terrace from the baroness's bedroom overlooking the park entrance. Used as a youth hostel from 1956 to 2010, it now stands privately owned amid the Coburg region's historic landscape.
