Schloss Königsborn
Germany, Germany
Schloss Königsborn in Alt Königsborn, part of Biederitz in Saxony-Anhalt's Jerichower Land district, Germany, originated as a Renaissance castle built between 1575 and 1579 by Oberst von Ziegesar as a reward for his military service.
Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and subsequently rebuilt, it passed to the von Tresckow family in 1619, who added a Baroque wing in 1652; further expansions around 1760-1770 made it two stories with gabled central risalits on the courtyard and garden sides.
Once housing a silk factory in its basement operated by Kriegsrat Friedrich Gossler in 1767, the strongly altered rectangular Baroque-Renaissance structure now serves as a cultural center, though its original castle features are no longer prominent.
