Schloss Lehrensteinsfeld
Lehrensteinsfeld, Germany
Schloss Lehrensteinsfeld in Lehrensteinsfeld, Germany, is a Renaissance castle built in the late 16th century on foundations of earlier medieval structures.
It was constructed by the von Gemmingen family after the village of Steinsfeld was destroyed by fire in 1535, incorporating older parts of the castle. In 1649, the castle and surrounding village were acquired by Field Marshal Ludwig von Schmidberg, whose family played an important role during and after the Thirty Years' War, including efforts to repopulate the area.
The castle’s south facade was remodeled in the late 18th century in the French Neoclassical style. In 1887, the Dietzsch family purchased the estate and has since nurtured it along with its vineyards and orchards.
