Schloss Limburg (Hessen)
Limburg an der Lahn, Germany, Germany
Schloss Limburg, also known as Burg Limburg, is a medieval rock castle perched on a limestone cliff behind Limburg Cathedral in Limburg an der Lahn, Hesse, Germany.
Dating back to possibly the 7th or 8th century with major expansions around 1250 under Gerlach I of Isenburg, including a rectangular residential tower, it changed hands among noble families like the Counts of Isenburg, Leiningen, and Landschad von Steinach while serving as an administrative hub.
Today, after restoration and transfer to city ownership in 2000, it houses the municipal archive, hosts Dommusik events, and features a redesigned castle garden with vineyard views over the Lahn Valley.
