Schloss Marienlay
Morscheid, Germany, Germany
Schloss Marienlay in Morscheid, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, is a relatively modern castle built between 1922 and 1927 in the Heimatstil regional style using slate quarry stones on the site of an 1880 press house, serving as the highest vineyard estate at 220 meters above sea level in the Ruwer Valley.
Commissioned by industrialist Josef Milz who introduced the name in 1923 and married into a wealthy Trier family, it was designed with possible French château influences by architect Gustav Schieffer or an unnamed professional, featuring a three-sided courtyard layout later expanded with modern cellars, garages, and a pool replaced by a terrace in the 1990s.
Integrated into the Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt wine estate since 1978 after passing through the Reh family, it now functions as a protected cultural site producing Riesling amid steep surrounding vineyards.
