Schloss Park
Putbus, Germany, Germany
Schloss Park in Putbus, Germany, spans 75 hectares on Rügen island and originated in 1725 as a French-style formal garden commissioned by Count Moritz Ulrich I. zu Putbus near his Renaissance-turned-Baroque palace.
Fürst Wilhelm Malte I transformed it around 1804 into an English landscape park with winding paths, lakes, meadows, rare trees like magnolias and giant sequoias, and a deer enclosure established in 1815.
Though the central neoclassical palace was demolished by East German authorities in 1962, surviving structures include the 1824 orangery, royal stables, mausoleum, churches, and monkey house, making it a protected monument ideal for scenic walks.
