Schloss Pouch
Muldestausee, Germany, Germany
Schloss Pouch is a historic moated castle in Pouch, part of Muldestausee municipality in Germany's Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, Saxony-Anhalt, originating as a 10th-century Slavic fortress first mentioned in 981 for securing the Mulde River region.
Evolving from a medieval stronghold with a prominent 13th-century Red Tower (Roter Turm)—a 26-meter brick bergfried used as a prison until the 18th century—it transitioned into a residence, suffering damage in the Thirty Years' War and a 1816 lightning strike before its 1868 neoclassical rebuild by Count Solms-Sonnenwalde on the old plateau.
Expropriated in 1945, it served as a care facility until the 1990s, briefly hosted EXPO 2000 exhibits, changed hands to investors by 2018, and stands today amid a park by the Goitzsche Lake with the restored tower open as a viewpoint.
