Schloss Pretzsch
Bad Schmiedeberg, Germany, Germany
Schloss Pretzsch in Bad Schmiedeberg, Germany, originated from a 10th-century Burgward mentioned in 981 for securing the Elbe crossing, rebuilt as a Renaissance palace between 1571–1574 by Saxon Hereditary Marshal Hans von Löser, Martin Luther's godchild and friend who often visited.
The three-story, two-winged brick structure features a corner square stair tower, rusticated stonework, pilasters, niches, and ornate gables, later enhanced with Baroque elements around 1700 by Electress Christiane Eberhardine, wife of Augustus the Strong, including designs by architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann.
Surrounded by an 8-hectare park blending Baroque and English landscape styles, it served as an orphanage, factory, and refugee center before becoming a children's home, museum, and event venue today.
