Schloss Proschwitz
Meissen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Proschwitz is a Neobaroque castle in the Proschwitz district of Meissen, Saxony, Germany, serving as the centerpiece of Saxony's oldest private winery established in the 12th century under the Bishops of Meissen, who produced mass wines there until the Reformation.
First mentioned in 1102 with a knight named Eckbert von Proschwitz, the site saw destruction during the Thirty Years' War before Gräfin Magdalena von Beichlingen commissioned its Baroque reconstruction around 1732–1737, later expanded in 1882–1888 and restyled in Neobaroque forms by 1914 under the zur Lippe family.
After Nazi seizure in 1943 and post-war use, Dr. Georg Prinz zur Lippe repurchased it in 1996, fully renovating the T-shaped manor by 2008 to operate a 55-hectare vineyard producing acclaimed Saxon wines.
