Schloss Pudagla
Pudagla, Germany, Germany
Schloss Pudagla in Pudagla, Germany, on Usedom Island, was built in 1574 as a widow's seat for Duchess Maria of Saxony, mother of Pomeranian Duke Ernst Ludwig, using foundations from a Premonstratensian monastery founded around 1310 and dissolved after the Reformation in 1535.
Serving as the administrative center for the Duchy of Pomerania's Usedom office under dukes, Swedish governors during the Thirty Years' War from 1647, and later Prussian domain until 1824, the simple two-story plastered brick building features a Renaissance portal, round corner turret, and segment-arched main entrance framed by pilasters.
After diverse uses including as a rent office until 1934, WWII V-weapon production site, and refugee shelter, it now functions as a medieval-themed restaurant following 1991 reconstructions of its vaulted cellars.
