Schloss Raesfeld
Raesfeld, Germany, Germany
Schloss Raesfeld in Raesfeld, Germany, is a Renaissance-style moated castle originating from a 12th-century knight's fortress, expanded in the mid-17th century by Reichsgraf Alexander II. von Velen into a grand residence featuring Westphalia's tallest castle tower at 52 meters.
Only the preserved West Wing remains of the original four-wing complex, now hosting the NRW Craft Academy, cultural events, and a restaurant, surrounded by a moat, ponds, and a 100-hectare historical wildlife park restored as a nature reserve with trails, ponds, and wildlife viewing.
The adjacent Burgfreiheit offers charming cafés and a chapel, while paths like the "Landstreifer" loop provide easy walks through woods and heaths near the 100 Castles Route.
