Schloss Reckenberg
Lichtenfels, Germany, Germany
Schloss Reckenberg, located near Lichtenfels in North Hesse, Germany, originated as a 14th-century moated castle built by the Imperial Abbey of Corvey, first documented in 1350.
Around 1369 it passed as a fief to the von Eppe family, who expanded it over centuries until their line died out in 1785, after which ownership shifted through various hands including the Counts of Nassau-Dietz. In 1671, Generalmajor Philipp Elmerhaus von Eppe demolished most of the old fortress—retaining two round towers—and constructed the current Baroque manor house with outbuildings like a barn and steward's house, set in the scenic Orke Valley known as "Örksche Schweiz."
Today, the private estate features these medieval towers integrated into its western facade and lies along hiking trails near the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park.
