Schloss Rennhof
Lampertheim, Germany
Schloss Rennhof is located in Hüttenfeld, a district of Lampertheim, Germany, and was completed by the Frankfurt Baron Mayer Carl von Rothschild by the end of 1853 in the Empire style.
Originally acquired by his father, the Rothschild family sought a summer residence in the Bergstraße region near a local Jewish community. The castle later passed through several owners, including the von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg family in 1889 and the Worms industrialist family von Heyl zu Herrnsheim in 1917.
In 1953, it was sold to the Lithuanian Central Committee in Germany, which has operated the Lithuanian Gymnasium Hüttenfeld there since 1954, making it a key cultural center for Lithuanians in Germany. Schloss Rennhof suffered significant fire damage in 1984 but was restored faithfully to its original exterior.
Architecturally notable is the tower rising above the three-story central building, transitioning from a square base to a polygon topped with a crenellated viewing platform. The castle is set within a landscaped garden park and is adjacent to the modern school buildings, blending historical grandeur with educational use.
