Schloss Ringelheim
Salzgitter, Germany, Germany
Schloss Ringelheim in Salzgitter, Germany, originated as a 10th-century convent founded by King Heinrich I and Mathilde of Ringelheim, later converted to a Benedictine abbey around 1150 under the Hildesheim bishopric.
Secularized in 1803 and acquired by Count Friedrich von der Decken in 1817, it was transformed into a manor house with expansions, featuring a Baroque church rebuilt in 1694 after a 1596 fire, complete with a valuable organ used for annual Ringelheim Organ Days.
Today in private hands, the site includes a freely accessible 21-hectare English landscape park from 1847 with serpentine lakes, artificial ruins, rare trees, walking paths, a mausoleum, and proximity to the Innerste River, blending medieval roots with noble estate history.
