Schloss Ritzebüttel
Cuxhaven, Germany, Germany
Schloss Ritzebüttel in Cuxhaven, Germany, is a late medieval brick Gothic castle originating from a 14th-century defensive tower raised to 21 meters by Hamburg in 1394, serving over 500 years as an administrative exclave controlling Elbe River trade and defending against pirates.
Extended with an impressive Baroque frontispiece between 1752 and 1755, the residence of Hamburg bailiffs evolved into a representative manor before extensive renovations restored it by 1996 as a public Bürgerschloss amid an 8.5-hectare park.
Today, the landmark hosts concerts, exhibitions, readings, weddings, and private events in its historic halls while functioning as a vibrant cultural center.
