Schloss Schönborn Heusenstamm
Heusenstamm, Germany, Germany
Schloss Schönborn in Heusenstamm, Hesse, Germany, is a Baroque palace complex built between 1663 and 1668 by Philipp Erwein von Schönborn on the former forecourt of an older medieval castle owned by the Counts of Heusenstamm, which passed to the Schönborn family in 1661.
Planned as a quadrangular moated castle with corner towers around a courtyard—possibly designed by Clemens Hinckh—only the front facade and partial side wings were completed initially, with rear extensions added in 1739-1742; it features stone lions and family crests added for Emperor Franz I's 1764 visit.
The city acquired the site in 1978, adapting the front palace into a closed quadrangle inspired by Aschaffenburg Castle to serve as the town hall, while the rear includes a residential building and Bannturm tower.
