Schloss Seeburg
Seegebiet Mansfelder Land, Germany, Germany
Schloss Seeburg in Seegebiet Mansfelder Land, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, majestically rises on a peninsula in the Süßer See, built atop an 8th/9th-century Slavic fort first mentioned in 743 as Hochseeburg in Frankish annals.
Querfurt nobles constructed its stone core around 1030, with expansions by Magdeburg archbishops and Mansfeld counts through the 13th century, transforming it into a Renaissance palace by 1514 under Graf Gebhard VII., complete with a fortified Witwenturm, Schlosskirche, and grand halls.
Owned by various nobles until expropriation in 1945, it served postwar as a school and hostel, then underwent privatization and restoration from the 1990s, now hosting a winery, café, weddings in its church, and tourism along the Mansfelder Seen wine route.
