Schloss Seggerde
Seggerde, Germany, Germany
Schloss Seggerde in Seggerde, part of Oebisfelde-Weferlingen in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, was rebuilt between 1833 and 1838 in a classical horseshoe-shaped style by Werner Friedrich Julius Stephan von Spiegel on the site of an ancient moated castle dating back to around 1226 for defense against Slavic incursions.
Originally acquired in 1616 by the von Spiegel family through marriage, it features a landscaped English park with two large lakes, an orangery, and surrounding moats that hint at its fortified past, later serving as a manor until 1945 expropriation.
Post-WWII it functioned as a sanatorium, dormitory, and kindergarten before returning to the von Davier family after reunification, now privately owned with occasional concerts and public park access.
