Schloss Solitude
Stuttgart, Germany, Germany
Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany, is a stunning Rococo palace built from 1764 to 1769 as a hunting lodge and summer retreat for Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg, designed by architects Johann Friedrich Weyhing and Philippe de La Guêpière on a ridge overlooking the Neckar Valley.
Featuring a central corps de logis with a grand White Hall, cupola, chapel, and semicircular wings, it hosted lavish events and the Hohe Karlsschule academy where Friedrich Schiller studied before falling into disrepair post-duke and serving as a military hospital in wars.
Restored between 1972 and 1983 by Baden-Württemberg, it now offers guided tours of its opulent interiors, spectacular views, and houses the Akademie Schloss Solitude artist residency in its outbuildings.
