Schloss Treuen
Treuen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Treuen is a late Renaissance manor house and the landmark of Treuen in Germany's Vogtland region, built between 1608 and 1610 by Urban von Freilitzsch using remnants of a medieval hill castle from around 1200 that originally protected local villages under the Vögte von Plauen.
This two-story timber-frame structure on a massive stone ground floor features a prominent staircase tower with an octagonal lantern and curved roof, making it the last surviving Fachwerkschloss of its style in southwest Saxony.
After falling into near-ruin post-reunification, a citizens' association formed in 2001 to buy and progressively restore it, now hosting concerts, festivals, and events as a cultural gem.
