Schloss Ueckermünde
Ueckermünde, Germany, Germany
Schloss Ueckermünde in Ueckermünde, Germany, is one of the last surviving buildings of the Pomeranian dukes, originally a medieval fortress first mentioned in 1178 and rebuilt in Renaissance style around 1540-1546 under Duke Philip I after falling into disrepair.
Surrounded by a moat and once featuring four wings, a church, and a tall turreted roof, it endured sieges, wars like the Thirty Years' War, and hosted figures such as Peter the Great and Albrecht von Wallenstein before Prussian control led to further damage.
Since 1780, the preserved south wing has served as the town hall, with interior cross-vaulted halls now used for weddings and housing the Ueckermünder Haffmuseum showcasing regional history.
