Schloss Waldthausen
Budenheim, Germany, Germany
Schloss Waldthausen is not a medieval castle but a grand, schloss‑like villa built between 1908 and 1910 in the Lennebergwald near Budenheim, just outside Mainz in Rhineland‑Palatinate, Germany.
It was commissioned by the cavalry officer and industrial heir Baron Martin Wilhelm von Waldthausen and designed by architect Hans Bühling in the style of a Staufen‑era palace, complete with a striking, tower‑like bergfried‑inspired central block and several outbuildings such as stables, a gatehouse, and staff housing.
The estate sits on roughly 95 hectares of forest and parkland and today serves as a freely accessible local landmark, popular for walks, photography, and regional tourism rather than as a private residence.
