Schloss Weißenborn
Weißenborn, Saxony, Germany, Germany
Schloss Weißenborn is a Renaissance castle in Weißenborn, Saxony, Germany, near Freiberg in the Erzgebirge foothills, tracing its origins to a 1213-documented medieval fortress first noted under Rudegerus de Wizenburne.
Granted as a fief to the von Hartitzsch family in 1365, who held it until 1802, the site evolved from a defensive burg into a castle through 16th- and 17th-century rebuilds, with further modifications around 1800 including a gatehouse and later neoclassical updates by owners like Freiherr von Wangenheim from 1882.
Expropriated in 1945, it served as a GDR cultural center until 1990, then fell into partial disrepair before private restoration; today it stands as a high-value historic manor with preserved medieval elements amid the Freiberger Mulde valley.
