Schloss Werleshausen
Witzenhausen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Werleshausen, also known as Rittergut Werleshausen, is a Renaissance-style manor house and castle in the Werleshausen district of Witzenhausen, Hesse, Germany, situated near the Werra River.
Its origins trace to a high medieval fortified house from around 1280, with a round tower possibly from the late 12th century and a basement featuring catacomb-like vaults and meter-thick walls, rebuilt in 1556 after a 1540 fire on the old foundations.
The rectangular main building boasts two octagonal corner towers with baroque hoods, a prominent two-story timber-framed oriel dated 1556, and fachwerk upper stories, serving as a local landmark under monument protection with only exterior viewing allowed today.
