Schloss Wiligrad
Lübstorf, Germany, Germany
Schloss Wiligrad in Lübstorf, Germany, is a late 19th-century neo-Renaissance castle built from 1896 to 1898 on the steep banks of Lake Schwerin by Duke Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg for himself and his wife Elisabeth, funded by her inheritance.
Named after a presumed Slavic "great castle" from the 10th century, the white-walled main building features gables, towers, oriels, balconies, and a loggia over a fieldstone base, set within a vast woodland park designed alongside the Friedrich-Franz Promenade and including outbuildings like stables and a gardener's house.
Remaining in ducal hands until 1945, it hosted nobility including Empress Auguste Viktoria and now serves as a museum showcasing its opulent interiors, historic estate ensemble, and scenic trails ideal for visitors near Schwerin.
