Verified Seattle Chinese Garden

Seattle, Washington, United States

The Seattle Chinese Garden in Seattle, Washington, covers 4.6 acres on the northern edge of South Seattle College and is designed in the Sichuan style, reflecting the city's sister-city relationship with Chongqing, China, which began in 1983.

The garden features traditional Chinese horticulture inspired by the Yangtze River gorges, with formal halls and pavilions fabricated in Chongqing and assembled on-site under the supervision of Chinese artisans. It includes key elements like the Song Mei Pavilion, known for views over the central pond, the Knowing the Spring Courtyard, the Luoyang Peony Garden, and bamboo groves, blending water, stone, plants, and architecture into a harmonious landscape.

The garden serves as a cultural bridge, hosting festivals, educational programs, art exhibitions, and performances that celebrate Chinese traditions while offering visitors a tranquil place for reflection and discovery. Opened in phases starting in the 1990s and officially celebrated in 2011, the garden aims to be one of the largest and most authentic Chinese gardens outside China, symbolizing friendship and cultural exchange.
