SeaWorld San Antonio
San Antonio, United States
SeaWorld San Antonio, a 416-acre marine mammal park, oceanarium, and animal theme park, opened on May 27, 1988, in the Westover Hills area of San Antonio, Texas, as the fourth SeaWorld location and the world's largest marine zoological park at the time, covering 250 acres initially.
Founded under Harcourt Brace Jovanovich ownership after the success of parks in San Diego, Ohio, and Orlando, it drew 3.3 million visitors in its first year with shows featuring orcas, dolphins, beluga whales, sea lions, and otters, plus early additions like water rides and a seasonal water park area.
Acquired by Anheuser-Busch in 1989 and later by other owners, the park expanded with roller coasters such as Great White and Steel Eel, a unique Journey to Atlantis water ride, and ongoing educational presentations focused on marine conservation, operating seasonally since 1989.
