Seußlitz
Nünchritz, Germany, Germany
Seußlitz Castle, located in Nünchritz near the Elbe River in Saxony, Germany, began as a 13th-century hunting residence of Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious, who founded a Poor Clares Monastery there in 1272 after his wife's death.
Dissolved during the 1541 Reformation, Simon Pistorius converted it into a knight's estate by 1552, with his family holding it until 1720, before Chancellor Heinrich von Bünau rebuilt it into a Baroque ensemble by 1733, hiring architect George Bähr—who later designed Dresden's Frauenkirche—for the castle church and park.
Used as an old people's home until 2000, it now stands privately owned and unused amid vineyards, with a historic church featuring medieval bells, graves, and a marble altar, plus nearby wine houses like Luisenschlößchen.
