Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco) is one of Milan’s most famous landmarks and a symbol of the city’s rich history.

Built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the site of an earlier Visconti fortress, it was transformed into a grand ducal residence and became a center of Renaissance art and culture. The castle was enlarged over the centuries and became one of the largest fortified complexes in Europe.

Renowned artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Bramante worked on its decorations, leaving an important artistic legacy within its walls. Today, the restored castle is open to the public and houses several museums, art collections, archives, and cultural institutions. Visitors can admire its impressive towers, courtyards, historic architecture, and masterpieces of art, including Michelangelo’s unfinished Rondanini Pietà, making it one of the most visited cultural attractions in Milan.
