Shafiabad Caravanserai (also written Shafi Abad Caravansarai) is a large, fortress-like caravan inn located in Shafiabad village in the Shahdad district of Kerman Province, Iran, on the edge of the vast Lut Desert.

It was built in the Qajar era (late 18th to early 20th centuries) and served merchants and travelers moving along major routes, including sections of the historic Silk Road, acting as the last reliable stopping point before caravans entered the harsh desert toward Kerman. The building is designed like a strong castle or military fortress, with high protective walls.

A prominent gate, and four watchtowers that enhance its defensive appearance and beauty, while its central courtyard and arranged chambers reflect classic Persian caravanserai architecture adapted to desert conditions. Surrounded by palm trees and linked to the village’s traditional water system via an ancient aqueduct, the caravanserai now functions as a cultural and tourist site, offering visitors a chance to experience the quiet atmosphere of the desert oasis, local customs, and nearby natural features such as the Shahdad Kalouts yardang formations in the UNESCO-listed Lut Desert.
