The Shakarganj Sugar Research Institute (SSRI), located on Toba Road in Jhang, Punjab, Pakistan, is a specialized research facility established in July 1983 under Shakarganj Limited, one of Pakistan's major sugar industry companies.

The institute focuses primarily on the evolution and development of new sugarcane varieties, conducting research on sugarcane breeding, genetics, pathology, and soil analysis services to support Pakistan's sugar industry, which feeds more than 82 sugar mills. SSRI established a sugarcane breeding facility under a control shed in 1984, set up a Sugar Cane Pathology Laboratory in 1992, and established its library in 1990, demonstrating its comprehensive approach to sugarcane research infrastructure.

The institute began publishing the Pakistan Sugar Journal in 1985 under its patronage, contributing to scientific knowledge in the sugar industry. SSRI has been involved in important research discoveries, including the first report of ratoon stunt of sugarcane caused by Lawrenceella xyli subsp. xyli in Punjab Province of Pakistan, identified through surveys from 2007 to 2010 in Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Dera Ghazi Khan Division.
