Sherwana Castle is a historic fortress located in Kalar in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. Built in 1866 by Mohamed Pasha Jaff, a prominent Kurdish leader of the Jaff tribe, the castle served as both a residence and a defensive stronghold, reflecting the power and influence of the Jaff family during the Ottoman era. Constructed from stone, brick, and other local materials, the castle stands on a hill overlooking the surrounding area and features distinctive towers, arched windows, and fortified walls. Its elevated position provided strategic views and protection, making it an important regional center. Today, Sherwana Castle is one of the best-known historical landmarks in the Garmian region.
