Siljustøl

Rådal, Norway, Norway

Siljustøl in Rådal, Norway, is the unique home of composer Harald Sæverud (1897–1992) and his wife, painter Marie Hvoslef (1900–1982), completed in 1939 as West Norway's largest private residence at 600 square meters with 63 rooms. Designed by architect Ludolf Eide Parr in collaboration with Sæverud, it draws from traditional Norwegian farmhouses in Telemark and Setesdal, blending wood and stone on a hilltop amid 176 acres of inspiring nature that fueled his music. Bequeathed to a foundation in 1984 and transferred to Bergen municipality in 1993, it opened as a museum in 1997 on his centennial, preserving his study, grand piano, and belongings for concerts in the music hall during Bergen International Festival.
