Smithestrøm gård
Drammen, Norway, Norway
Smithestrøm gård, also known as Nedre Strøm, is a historic estate in Strømsgodset, Drammen, Norway, with roots around 1400 when acquired by Guttorm Rolfsen Kirkeberg, later passing through owners like Peder Hansen Litle, Gunde Lange, and Hannibal Sehested until 1651. Named after three generations of the Smith family from 1728, timber merchant Gabriel Smith began the rococo main building in 1767, completed in Louis Seize style by 1788 under his son Anders, making it the region's oldest and largest pleasure house, protected since 1923 with a preserved Baroque garden from around 1770. Once the district's largest farm run innovatively by Captain Gabriel Smith in joint operation with nearby estates, it was divided after 1857 sales, partially parceled for rail and housing, and now serves private cultural purposes amid its linden avenue and terraced landscape.
