Snells Beach
North Island, New Zealand, New Zealand
Snells Beach is a small coastal town on the Mahurangi Peninsula in the north of Auckland Region on New Zealand’s North Island, about an hour’s drive north of the city of Auckland.
The town faces east across Kawau Bay towards Kawau Island and is built along a long, flat, 2.5–3 km stretch of sandy beach that is popular for safe swimming, paddle‑boarding, kite‑surfing, dog walking and shore‑bird watching.
The shoreline is backed by a grassy esplanade reserve with pōhutukawa trees, walking paths, playgrounds, picnic areas, a public café, toilets and showers, giving it a relaxed, family‑friendly seaside‑village atmosphere.
The area is mainly residential and holiday‑oriented, with a small shopping centre and increasing housing, but it remains a quiet spot on the Matakana Coast where visitors enjoy wide tidal flats, calm waters at high tide, and easy access to nearby bays, parks and vineyards.
