Söder Schloss
Holle, Germany, Germany
Söder Schloss in Holle, Germany, is a Baroque water castle built from 1741 to 1742 by Jobst Edmund von Brabeck, replacing an older medieval farmstead from around 1200 once held by the von Hagen and von Bortfeld families.
The three-winged structure features a central risalit with seven axes, corner pavilion towers capped by mansard roofs, and surrounding moats on three sides, later enhanced by his son Friedrich Moritz with pavilions, a bridge, gate, and an English landscape park including a two-kilometer linden avenue to Turmberg.
Once famed for its vast art collection worth half a million taler and visited by notables, it underwent early 20th-century expansions like an orangery and stables under Graf Curt von Schwicheldt, remaining privately owned amid scenic fields.
