Spitzhaus Radebeul
Radebeul, Germany, Germany
Spitzhaus Radebeul is a historic late Renaissance summer house perched above the vineyards in Radebeul, Saxony, Germany, built in 1622 as a small square two-story structure originally known as the "Hohes Haus" on a former electoral estate.
After merchant Paul Friedrich Landsberger added its signature curved tent roof around 1656—likely by architect Wolf Caspar von Klengel resembling Moritzburg's chapel—it passed through owners until gifted to Elector Augustus the Strong in 1710 by Countess Cosel, serving as a banqueting venue for court festivities.
Remodeled in Baroque style under Augustus III in 1749 by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann with a copper tower covering, it connects via the famous 397-step Spitzhaus staircase (rebuilt 1845-46) to Hoflößnitz below, later becoming an excursion restaurant after 1889 privatization amid vineyard decline.
