St. Nicetus Castle, also known as the Castle of Sant’Aniceto, is a medieval fortress located on a hill near Motta San Giovanni in Calabria.

Built by the Byzantines in the early 11th century, it is one of the few well-preserved Byzantine fortifications in Italy and one of the rare examples of early medieval architecture in the region. The castle was constructed as a defensive stronghold and refuge against coastal raids, taking advantage of its commanding position overlooking the Strait of Messina and the surrounding countryside.

It later remained important under Norman and Angevin rule, serving as a military and administrative center. Today, visitors can explore its impressive ruins, including fortified walls, towers, gateways, and cisterns. The castle is especially valued for its historical significance and breathtaking views stretching across Calabria, the Strait of Messina, and even Mount Etna on clear days.
