The city wall of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany, is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval fortifications, nearly 4 km long and encircling the historic Altstadt with 42 towers, six main gates, and a walkable covered rampart path.

Construction began in the 12th century with an inner ring (now mostly gone except for the White Tower and Markus Tower), followed by the main outer wall between 1270 and 1400 to protect against expanding threats, featuring robust stonework, battlements, and bastions like the Spitalbastei.

Damaged in a 1945 WWII bombing, it was meticulously restored, drawing tourists today via free access points for panoramic views and a symbol of the city's fairy-tale charm.
