The State Arboretum of Virginia, located at Blandy Experimental Farm in Boyce, Virginia, is a 172-acre arboretum established in the 1930s and officially designated as the state arboretum in 1986.

It sits on land bequeathed by Graham F. Blandy to the University of Virginia, intended for horticultural research and education. The arboretum contains over 8,000 trees and woody shrubs from around the world, including North America’s largest collection of boxwood cultivars and more than half of the world’s pine species.

Highlights include a 300-tree Gingko biloba grove, a Virginia Native Plant Trail, extensive meadows, and diverse plantings such as azaleas, magnolias, maples, and lilacs. The site supports environmental research, education programs, and public outreach, offering walking trails and scenic spots that celebrate the region’s natural and cultural heritage. Admission is free and it is open daily from dawn to dusk.
